Ilocano's Celebration
Vigan City is a very important and unique places and was listed by UNESCO as the best preserved example of Spanish colonial towns in Asia. Vigan City is known as one of the oldest towns in the philippines and is a Spanish Colonial fairy tale of dark-wood mansions, clattering kalesa and cobblestone streets. The Vigan City Fiesta is held every January 25. It is celebrated during the feast day of the conversion of St. Paul the Apostle. St. Paul is Vigan City’s patron saint. Before his conversion, St. Paul was known as Saul, a zealous persecutor of Christians. It's normally celebrated around January 22nd to January 25th—the dates vary from year to year.

A very delicate celebration for vigan city and especially for Ilocanos. January 20 Vigan city held a marching band parade. Different school participated and really amazed the audience. It was a very fun parade and also our school ISNHS who became a champion in the showdown. Of course as a student of ISNHS we came to watch and support them and thankfully they won because they also did their best. It was really fun to watch them especially the elementary marching who paraded. They are so delicate yet gives us full of joy.
Every year, Vigan City also having a celebration called Longganisa Festival. Longganisa Festival was held in January 22. It is celebrate a longganisa-themed festival. Longganisa is a local sausage with a creamy garlic flavor and a breakfast staple in the country. Longganisa Festival is a festival which some of places in vigan participate a dance competition to entertain and to show how Ilocanos celebrate their fiesta. It gives the audience full of joy and support. Longganisa Festival, It is a week-long celebration in honor of St. Paul the Apostle that starts on January 25 and this festival fills the streets of Vigan with colorful exhibits, carnivals, and locals performing street dances.
Since Vigan City Fiesta and started they also have a carnival which is a part of the Fiesta celebration. As we visited the carnival, It does really entertain me and I had so much fun. Entering the carnival we can saw first those people who sells different products and also a lot of used clothes that they called “ukay-ukay” here in vigan. After that we ate a lot and I almost spend all of my money because of how delicious their food are, especially the product of vigan called empanada. Of course we also entered their main event which where we can have more fun. We tried to play their running lights which you pick a number and just put it a one peso coin and if you have a luck you can win their prizes. Next, we also did some gambling because it’s also a part of the carnival but we didn’t gambled much, I can say that we just tried because it is also fun. Lastly, we tried to be brave and rode some rides and the most exciting part is when we rode the one called frisbee which a very big circle who spin a lot and swing a lot. It was really fun and I hope we can go again next year.
As part of the Ilocanos, It was really fun and amazed me. The people in vigan was really entertaining and also welcomed every tourist that visited them. My experience is not really a regrettable because I had so much fun. I had watched some of their parades especially the grand parade. I visited their carnival and enjoyed myself. This was only happened every year but it gives me a lot of memories and excitement. The vigan fiesta was really a memorable experience and i’m looking forward again for the next celebration.
